CALLING ALL MAYO D.O.G.S!
(DADS OF GREAT STUDENTS)
Who are WATCH D.O.G.S.? They are the Heros of our hallways...fathers, grandfathers, step-fathers, uncles, and other father-figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities as assigned by the school principal or another administrator.
WATCH D.O.G.S. is a one-of-a-kind, school-based father involvement program that works to support education and safety.
The Watch DOGS program is coming to MAYO this September! This stands for Dads of Great students. This is where dads (or other father figures), volunteer for to serve at least one day a year in the school. You help ensure safe arrival and dismissal, you eat lunch and play with the kids at recess, and you will also assist in the classroom.

WATCH D.O.G.S. FAQ's
Do I need a background check to be a WATCH DOG? Yes, all Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers need to have the county background check completed prior to their volunteer day. The background check takes approximately two weeks to be completed. You can apply electronically here: https://www.aacps.org/Page/1869
Additionally, all school volunteers must also watch the eleven minute 'Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse' video. You can view it the morning of your Watch D.O.G.S. day or any time before your Watch D.O.G.S. day by accessing it online here:
Once you watch the video, please print and sign the verification form and bring it with you to the school. The form can be found on this site under the 'Documents' tab in the 'WATCH DOGS' category. Or it can be found here: http://aacpsschools.org/family/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Volunteer-Video-verification-form.pdf
I have already seen the volunteer video. Do I need to watch it again each new school year? No, once you have watched the mandatory volunteer video, you do not need to it again. We may ask you to sign a verification form stating you’ve seen the video as this verification form is new for the 2016-2017 school year. You can find the document here: http://aacpsschools.org/family/wp-content/uploads/2014/09/Volunteer-Video-verification-form.pdf
I had the county background check completed last year. Do I need to do it again this year? No, the completed background checks are good for two years.
How do I sign-up to be a Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer? Contact Laura Ward, 5th Grade Teacher: LAWARD@AACPS.ORG
What should I wear? We encourage all of our Watch D.O.G.S. to wear a uniform shirt. This will be provided for you in the office. We have sizes ranging from S-2XL. If you do not want to wear a uniform shirt, we ask that you wear a plain colored polo-style shirt and we will give you a sticker badge to identify you as the Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer for the day! We recommend you wear comfortable shoes as you will likely be on your feet for most of the day and also dress for the weather—as a Watch D.O.G.S. volunteer you will spend a good portion of your day outside (during arrival, recess, and dismissal).
How do I sign up for a Watch D.O.G shift? Sign up using the 'Sign-Up-Genius' link, available:
www.SignUpGenius.com/go/10C0E4DADAE2EA0F49-201718. You will be able to view the available shifts here.
Someone else is signed up on the day that I would like to volunteer. Can two people serve on the same day? We prefer to spread out our WatchDOGS so that they are present in the building more frequently. However, if it is a special day, such as your child’s birthday or the only day you can be there, then yes, 2 WatchDOGS is okay.
