School Safety Meeting + Identifying and Treating Anxiety in Children -- April 3 at CGES

In lieu of a PTA meeting on Tuesday, April 3, CGES will be hosting several events.

From 6:30 pm - 7:00 pm, Ms. Rogovoy will be giving a short presentation on school safety in the CGES media center.

From 7:00 pm - 8:00 pm, CGES will be hosting a workshop titled Identifying and Treating Anxiety in Children at CGES in the all purpose room.  This event is open to the entire Richard Montgomery High School cluster.

Dr. Krystal M. Lewis will lead this workshop.  The topic areas include:

** The science and biological roots of anxiety in children

** How to identify an anxious child

** How to change anxious thinking

** Strategies for treating specific anxiety disorders

Dr. Krystal M. Lewis received her doctorate in clinical psychology from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University (Virginia Tech).  She completed fellowships at Lurie Children's Hospital of Northwestern in Chicago and at the University of Illinois at Chicago for further specialization in child anxiety.  Her research interests include the identification and treatment of anxiety in youth.  She has consulted with schools in several states working to help staff identify anxious children and implement preventative programs.  She has recently relocated to Bethesda to work at the National Institutes of Heath with Dr. Daniel Pine and the Section on Development and Affective Neuroscience (SDAN) team.
