The Central Palm Beach County Community Foundation, part of the Chamber of Commerce, is proud to announce our fourth year leading the Young Entrepreneurs Academy (YEA!) Program! This upcoming 2018-2019 year is expected to be one of our most competitive and impressive. We have a group of mentors, instructors, and investors eager to equip students with a great foundation for successfully launching their own businesses. As the Program Manager for this session, I am humbled and thrilled to be part of such a magnanimous program!
WE NEED STUDENTS! And not just any students, but some of the bright, responsible, headstrong, organized, and determined students who will excel in this prestigious program. Entrepreneurship gives people self-developed confidence, and this hands-on, community program here in Central Palm Beach County will help students do three things:
1.) Enables them to make executive decisions- instilling confidence.
2.) Readies them for the next step in their career- whether it be college, high school, or middle school.
3.) Gets them involved in their own community- helping the students feel part of something larger than themselves all while benefitting the community!
Today, the challenges and pressures set upon our middle and high school students out weight many of the “normal” pressures many of us faced during our adolescent years. With social media and gun violence pervading our schools, self- esteem can drop to an all-time low with many of the most promising students in our community. My goal with the YEA! program is to aid students in instilling their own recognition of themselves through their own, self-developed confidence in themselves. YEA! gives students the platform to become their own leader, make a decision for themselves, collaborate with peers and mentors, see the world from a different angle. YEA! encourages this, and from the previous years, has persisted these qualities in many of the student participants.
Now, what is YEA! (pronounced “yay!”)…
YEA! is a nationally-accredited after-school program that began at the University of Rochester in 2004. Since its inception, over 168 YEA! locations have been established all over the United States, one student has pitched their YEA! business on Shark Tank and thousands of students have registered their own distinctive businesses as an LLC. TheYEA! program uses a project-based approach to provide students a firsthand understanding of business development and entrepreneurship.
The YEA! Program transforms local middle and high school students into confident and independent entrepreneurs who have gained the knowledge and experience to successfully run their own company. Through the year-long project-based program, students ages 11–18 generate business ideas, conduct market research, write business plans, pitch to a panel of investors, and finally launch their own legally registered companies. Students can turn their passions into revenue all while developing confidence and leadership skills. With creative field trips and reputable guest speakers, YEA! helps foster the entrepreneurial spirit in all participants. The program evolves into a community event benefitting everyone involved.
The Central Palm Beach County Community Foundation is seeking mature, creative, and motivated student applicants who are interested in committing to the Central Palm Beach County Chamber of Commerce’s Community Foundation’s YEA! Program, which will run from October 2018 through April 2019. Classes will be held on Wednesdays from
4:30pm to7:30pm. The program connects students with local business leaders that not only help them throughout the duration of the program but will teach them concepts that will be carried on throughout their entire lives.
Palm Beach County houses a thriving community with the nation’s top schools, foremost sports programs, and premier businesses; this program continues this trend by supplanting young generations with the quality mindset to propagate the ingenuity here in the heart of Palm Beach County. What better way to get a head start on a lifetime career than in your middle and high school years?
YEA! is not only a wonderful tool to teach students about business, but also a great way to build confident leaders with values. YEA! is an excellent instrument to unify the business and educational communities, with a mission to teach more students how to make a job, not just take a job
