Florida PTA 2016 Leadership Convention
 
Registration is NOW OPEN for the 2016 Florida PTA Annual Leadership Convention.  Take advantage of this amazing opportunity to network, collaborate, share, and learn to make your year ahead effective, efficient, and fun!  
 
The Leadership Convention will be held July 14-17 at the Innisbrook Resort & Golf Club in Tarpon Springs.

The Palm Beach County Council is a member of the largest advocacy group for children in the nation.  The council supports PTA units at schools thoughout Palm Beach Countyl and currently has over 16,000 parent, teacher, student and community members.  The Council is governed by approved bylaws designed to meet specific objectives.  The Council will interpret, promote and support the basic policies of the State and National PTA.  As such we are a 501(c)(3)
A Council serves as a medium between the State and the loca unit.  A Council strenthens each local unit byu enabling it to work more effectively within its schools and its community.

The Palm Beach County Council will provide relevant traning and provide resources needed to assist in the success of the local unitl  Council meetings are used to promote advocacy for all children within Palm Beach County.

The Council provides a forum for public information that can stimulate action of current issues that relate to children.

During the 2016 Annual Convention & Expo, National PTA delegates will vote on the following four proposed resolutions.
  1. Water Safety and Instruction
  2. Electronic Cigarettes and Youth
  3. Recognition of Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ) Individuals as a Protected Class
  4. Homework: Quality Over Quantity
The resolutions will be considered during General Meeting 2, which will be held from 1:15 to 3 p.m. on Thursday, June 30 in Pacific AB at the Walt Disney World Swan & Dolphin Resort.
 
All primary amendments for the resolutions must be filed in advance of General Meeting 2 in order to be debated. The deadline to submit resolutions amendments is 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 30 at the Resolutions Committee Table, which will be located in the foyer outside of Pacific AB.
 
Resolutions are an important part of the advocacy work of National PTA; the 54 Congresses of PTA; and regional, council and local PTAs. In conjunction with position statements approved by the Board of Directors, resolutions provide direction for advocacy and carry the weight of the delegates behind them to direct and inform efforts on behalf of children, families and schools.

Resolutions Writing Lab
9:45 a.m. – 11:15 a.m., Thursday, June 30
Southern Hemisphere II
 
Prepare your amendments to the proposed resolutions and collaborate with other delegates with similar recommendations during the Resolutions Writing Lab.
 
Members of National PTA's Resolutions Committee as well as representatives for the makers of the resolutions will be on hand to answer questions. 
 
Please note that you must take your completed amendments to the Resolutions Amendments Submission Table in the Pacific AB Foyer by 11:45 a.m. on Thursday, June 30.
 
Only amendments submitted in writing and in this manner will be considered during General Meeting 2.
Convention Workshop: Making Change Through PTA's Resolutions

Learn how to amplify grassroots voices through National PTA's resolutions process during this workshop at the 2016 Annual Convention & Expo.
 
Walk through the process of researching, writing, gaining support for and adopting a resolution. Understand the difference between a position statement and resolution. Find out why resolutions-based advocacy is so powerful and how you can make the process painless.
