The purpose of our Career Expo is to introduce our 8th grade students to a wide variety of career and employment possibilities available to them prior to their ninth grade endorsement and course selection deadline in January.
During this event, you will conduct a short presentation that will tell the students about who you are and what you do, what education and/or training you took in order to be where you are today. I encourage you to bring a display of some sort, or “prop/s,” related to your job, the purpose of which will grab the students’ attention and engage them in an interactive dialogue with you after your presentation. You may distribute fliers, brochures, business cards etc. Use this as an opportunity to advertise! After your introduction and job description, students will be able to ask you more in depth questions and then they will rotate to other presenters in your location. The school does have WIFI but Principal Nava has recommended that presentations be saved on personal storage devices and played on lap tops if that is what you will be using as your prop.
To expedite admission to our school on the day of the Career Expo, Mr. Nava has requested that each presenter contact the school by Wednesday, January 25th and provide the school with your name, date of birth and driver license number so that visitor tags may be printed out in advance for you. You may park in front of Antoinette Reading Jr High School. The school building will be open at 7:30. Please note that the traffic into the Junior High is heavy. My suggestion is if you want to be there at 7:30 then you may need to leave your home before 7:00. Traffic seems to lighten up around 7:45. Once you arrive, there will be greeters at the school entrance to welcome you and assist you with set up and show you to the LGI (Large Group Instruction) room for your Continental breakfast 7:45 - 8:30 am prior to the Career Expo.
