An Important Message Regarding the 2020 Reopening Plan

Hello Central Elementary School Families,

We hope you are keeping well during these continually unusual times.  While many aspects of dealing with COVID-19 are daunting, to say the least, our wish is that every family is finding ways to make the most of this additional time together.

We are reaching out today to encourage you, as your Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), to fully inform yourselves of the AACPS October 2020 Reopening Plan.  We realize this is a personal choice, with many factors that influence individual families’ decisions.  We also respect that there is no easy choice.  That said, we encourage everyone to take advantage of the information that Anne Arundel County Schools has put forward and to review it thoroughly before submitting your final survey.  Please keep in mind, much of the information is changing – daily and in some cases even more frequently.  It’s a good idea to review the last information posted before submitting your final survey response.  The deadline to complete the Family Registration is Monday, October 19, 2020 at 5:00 PM.

Additionally, we want to share an update around virtual learning tomorrow, October 16th. The Teachers Association of Anne Arundel County (TAAAC) has put forth a call county-wide for teachers to wear a mask for a brief time during their teaching period on Friday.  Any child learning virtually from a teacher who is in a school building will be learning from a teacher in a mask. Many parents and students wonder what that will be like. To help parents and students understand what this may be like, teachers will wear a mask for a portion of the day tomorrow.  Teachers will explain to their students that this is part of adjusting to what will possibly be a new normal in the classroom (virtual or in-person).  The ultimate goal of our school officials, including our teachers, is a safe and healthy return for each individual.  Facial coverings/masks play a pivotal role.

Again, we realize these are unprecedented times and there are no easy decisions.  Please inform yourself with the information available and ensure your voice is heard by completing the Family Registration.

On behalf of the PTO, we all look forward to the days when our children will be together in the school building again – in the meantime, we hope you are taking it day by day and finding the bright spots in each one.

With kind regards,

Karen Wentworth (on behalf of the CES PTO)
