Labor Day in the United States of America is a public holiday celebrated on the first Monday in September. It honors the American labor movement and the contributions that workers have made to the strength, prosperity, laws, and well-being of the country. 

The first Labor Day was hardly a national holiday. Workers had to strike to celebrate it. The holiday’s founders in the late 1800s envisioned something very different from what the day has become.
The founders were looking for two things: a means of unifying union workers and a reduction in work time.
