WATCH D.O.G.S.

WATCH D.O.G.S. is one of the nation’s largest and most respected school-based, family, and community engagement, organizations in the country. Launched in 1998, more than 6,450 schools now participate. One of the main goals WATCH D.O.G.S. is to provide positive male role models for the students, demonstrating by their presence that education is important.

WHO are they and WHAT do they do?

They are the Heroes of our hallways...fathers, step-fathers, grandfathers, and other father-figures who volunteer to serve at least one day a year in a variety of school activities. During the school day, Watch D.O.G.S. may read and work on flash cards with students, play at recess, eat lunch with students, patrol the school entrances and hallways, and other activities where they actively engage with our student body, in addition to your own students.

Do you need a background check to participate? YES, all Watch D.O.G.S. volunteers are required to have the county background check completed prior to their volunteer day. Allow approximately 2 weeks for processing. It is typically good for 2 years. *If you do not pass the background check, you will be notified by Mrs. Fox, Mayo ES Principal. That info is confidential. Apply here: https://www.aacps.org/Page/1869

All volunteers must also watch the AACPS 'Sexual Harassment and Child Abuse' video. Please watch it before your Watch D.O.G.S. day and print/sign the verification form to turn in at our school. (This is a one time requirement)

Video link and verification form can be found here:

What should you wear? Our amazing PTO has given our Watch D.O.G.S. a uniform shirt to wear. We also have some you can borrow in the school office. If preferred, you may wear a plain colored polo-style shirt and we will give you a Watch D.O.G.S. sticker for the day. Dress comfortably (think recess) and for being on your feet most of the day!

How do you sign up for a Watch D.O.G.S. shift?

We have MANY families that want to participate in this awesome program. To make room on the schedule, we ask that you choose only 1 date (per family) this semester. Link Coming Soon!
