Spelling Bee and Oratorical Competition
The Montgomery County Maryland Chapter of Jack & Jill of America, Inc. is pleased to announce that registration for the 10th Annual JJMCMC Spelling Bee and Benjamin E. Mays Oratorical Competition is now open. The JJMCMC Spelling Bee is open to students in Grades 1-5. Preliminary spelling bee rounds will be held in a closed classroom. As a result, parents are not allowed in the room with students during preliminary rounds. There are no exceptions. The five spelling bee finalists per grade will continue to compete in the arena that is open to parents, family, and friends. The Benjamin E. Mays Oratorical Competition is open to students in grades 6-12.The competition will be offered in two divisions:Division I, for students in middle school, grades 6 - 8Division II, for students in high school, grades 9 - 12Middle school students will compete against middle school students, and high school students will compete against high schools students.Speeches are to be researched, written, and developed by the contestants; however, parents are allowed to assist with grammar and spelling. Students may be coached and/or advised in final preparation for the competition.
