Msg from our PTSA President re: Holding School update
A message from Valeri Bishop, our PTSA President (11/4/18):
Thank you for your interest regarding the temporary holding school - I've spoken, texted and emailed with many parents and students (current and former) who have contacted me with questions, concerns, and inputs these past few weeks.   There were many questions this weekend about recent information shared, so I wanted to share an update.
As your PTSA President, I've been in daily communication and working with our District, School Board, City Mayor and Administration team.  Concerns about items such as traffic flow, security, changes on our campus and their impact, the planned location for buildings/parking lots/etc and the use of our field/track have been shared.
I support improving our schools.   However, as details of the current plan became available, I let the decision makers know that until they could say every other alternative piece of land and solution had been considered for the holding school - I'd continue to oppose the current plan and use of our track/field.
There are still details that need to be worked out, but I feel good about the progress made on Friday.   School Board Member Barbieri, Boca Raton Mayor Singer and the District team held an urgent meeting and are exploring an option that would not involve our track, field or baseball fields.  I spoke with Mr. Barbieri several times on Friday and am looking forward to an update on the use of this alternative piece of land (south of our campus) that is being explored.
We're also still working to coordinate the parent information meeting where District can share current plans and parents can ask questions.  We'd like to now incorporate the latest information from the new option, so will be selecting a date once that's available this week.
Thank you to all of the Dragon parents, staff, students and alumni who have been sharing their inputs and concerns - the decision makers are listening.
I'd also like to thank Mr. Barbieri, Mayor Singer and Dr. Fennoy and the District team for working towards a plan that's in the best interest of the Don Estridge, Verde and Addison students.
I'll keep you posted with updated information as it becomes available.    Please let me know if you have any questions or need anything.    Thank you again.
