Spring Assessment Update
During the week of Monday, May 3rd to Friday, May 8th, both 7th & 8th grade students will participate in the FSA Reading Assessment. Specific reporting dates are listed below. Distance learners received an email this week with their testing location. Parents are asked to review this information with their student. Students will need to bring headphones that plug into the computer on their testing day. Please complete the Distance Learner Dismissal Form, if your student is not staying in school all day. In addition, we are continually updating our testing website to keep parents and students informed. To access the website, please click here. Finally, there is a new parent letter regarding the impact of E.O.C. Assessments on student grades. To read the student letter, please click here.
In response to the latest developments regarding Florida Standards Assessments, all students will be testing at school only. Distance learners will test in separate locations from brick & mortar learners. However, if a student must remain on campus after testing, he/she will be placed in our overflow room which will contain current brick and mortar students.
The Spring Assessment Window includes the Florida State Assessment (FSA) for Language Arts/Math, End of Course Exams (EOC) for Algebra and Geometry, as well the State Science Assessment and the Civics EOC. Assessments vary depending on a student's schedule and grade level. Please note we will not be accepting specific date and time requests. Students will be provided a date and time to report for testing. Don Estridge has created a parent website for Spring Assessments. To access the website, please click here.
Important Information for Testing:
All computer-based tests will need to be completed on a school district computer. If you have not checked out a computer to date, students will be provided a school district computer on test day.
Students must bring their school issued computer (fully charged) and charger to school.
Students taking computer-based tests will need a pair of headphones that connect directly to their computer for testing (bluetooth connection is not allowed); the school does have headphones available for students to use.
Distance Learners that need school sponsored transportation should fill out the form found on the testing website by April 26th. Transportation requests take up to 1 week to arrange. Parents will be notified by Don Estridge regarding detailed information for stops and times.
Students may not have smart watches and cell phones within reach during testing. If your student is bringing their cell phone to school during testing, please bring it in a plastic bag with their name one it as it will be collected before the test and returned after testing. (Cell phones will be kept in the same room, however, they will be out of reach of the students during testing.)
Safety Protocols and Precautions:
Students not feeling well the day of the test should NOT report to campus. Once a test is started it must be completed that day or it will be invalidated.
Students coming to campus for testing will follow CDC Guidelines and School Board Policy 5.326, wearing a mask at all times, maintaining a safe distance from others, and following directions from staff members.
1. How will Distance Learners be separated from Brick & Mortar students?
We will be testing Distance Learners in the Gym for their FSA tests while Brick & Mortar students will be testing in classrooms. Distance Learners with accommodations will test in our Modulars and will be dismissed later than our students testing in the Gym. If a Distance Learner is not picked up after testing, he/she will be placed in our overflow room that will contain Brick and Mortar Students.
2. What does my student do after the test session ends?
Distance Learners may be picked up after their test session is completed or they may remain in school until the end of the day. Students who remain in school will have time for lunch; then, will report to the overflow room to attend their online classes virtually.
3. What if my student has the accommodation for extended time for testing? What about other accommodations?
All accommodations indicated in IEP and 504 plans as well as accommodations for English Language Learners will be provided during testing.
4. What will my brick and mortar student be doing while other grades are testing?
Brick and mortar students, who are not testing, will be working on assignments in a classroom until testing is completed.
5. What should I do if my child wakes up sick on a scheduled testing day?
If your child wakes up sick, please do not send them in to school for testing. There will be make-up days.
6. What if my child needs transportation on testing days?
Please complete the transportation request form here.
7. Who should I contact with additional questions regarding testing?
Justine Young, 6th Grade Assistant Principal & Testing Coordinator, firstname.lastname@example.org
Teacher/Staff Appreciation Week

The PTSA and the school are working collaboratively to let the teachers and staff know that, "WE'VE GOT YOU COVERED!" Together, we have events planned for each day. Please help us to show Don Estridge teachers and staff how much we appreciate them! Parents who wish to participate in this event can make a donation on the PTSA Website, purchase an item on the Amazon Wish List, send in homemade desserts by completing this form, or send their teachers a personal gift during the week. As always, we appreciate our generous Don Estridge families and would love your support once again.

School Lunch Hero Day
The School District of Palm Beach County will celebrate 1,400 School Food Service staff members by wearing yellow on Thursday, May 7th. Health Forms Update
Important information regarding health forms required for all incoming 7th grade students:
Per Florida Statute 1003.22 and Palm Beach County School Board Policy 5.06 all incoming 7th grade students are required to provide a valid health examination form (DH3040) and an immunization form (DH680) for school attendance. These are the only acceptable forms.
For your convenience you can email email@example.com or fax the DH680 immunization form indicating all up to date vaccines, including the Tdap and both sides(parent side completed, signed and dated & physician side) of the DH3040 health examination form. The DH3040 health form must be dated on or after August 10, 2020 to be in compliance.
If your child has a medical or religious exemption, we must have that on file as well.
Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Mrs. Benjamin directly.
No Shots. No School. No Kidding.
Parents of ESE Students
Parents of students with individualized education plans are encouraged to complete a survey for the Florida Department of Education. To complete the survey, please click here.
Return to School Waivers
In an effort to accommodate families with extenuating circumstances during distance learning, there is a waiver parents/guardians can complete to send their student back as soon as possible. This waiver can also be used for students who are struggling academically or attendance. Families interested in completing the waiver should contact Michele Stearns, Data Processor, at firstname.lastname@example.org or 561-989-7812.
In the interest of health and safety for our entire school community and families at home, please screen your student’s health each morning before sending him/her to school. If your student is ill, please keep him/her home to participate in distance learning. Students must not come to school if ill including, but not limited to: symptoms of fever, cough, sore throat, diarrhea, severe headache, body ache, shortness of breath, fatigue, loss of appetite, sense of smell, and other flu-like symptoms. Parents and guardians are recommended to take their student’s temperature prior to reporting to school and the student shall not report to school if they have a temperature of 100.4 or higher. Students shall not report to school while using fever-reducing medications. Finally, please read and familiarize yourself with School Board Policy 5.326 Student & Family Responsibilities for Returning to School.
School nurses can now administer voluntary rapid antigen tests to ‘brick and mortar’ students who are exhibiting Covid-like symptoms. Students must have a signed consent form on file at the school to be considered for testing. Even with a consent form on file, parents opting into testing will be contacted before any test is performed. Parents of children in grades 3-12 will have the option of being present during the Covid test. Link for more information: palmbeachschools.org/CovidTest.
