PTA Committee Descriptions
The PTA sponsors several events throughout the school year, and it is only possible through the combined efforts of our parent volunteers.  Read about the various PTA Committees below to learn more about the amazing things being done at KSE.  To volunteer to help with any committee, please contact a member of the Executive Board at http://www.myvlink.org/ksepta/contact.php.  We would love to have you aboard!

In-School Events (weekdays)

Red Ribbon Week – Drug Awareness (October). Select activities for each day and distribute prizes to children who participate.

Cultural Arts Day (February).  Students rotate through a variety of artistic and cultural presentations.  Committee recruits presenters and volunteers.

Read Across America (March). Community leaders visit KSE and read to classes. Committee recruits readers and coordinates event.  Planning begins in January. 
 
Author Visit (March).  Assist KSE’s media specialist with logistics and book distribution.

Fun Run Fundraiser (May).  A new event at KSE! Students will participate in an on-campus run and have an opportunity to raise funds for the PTA. Committee works with the PTA Board to plan & execute the event, including pre-event promotion and day-of logistics.

Field Day (May). Committee works with PE teachers to plan activities, procure supplies & refreshments, and coordinate the schedule and volunteers.  Planning begins in March.

Family Events (nights/weekends)
Movie Night (Sept/Oct).  Outdoor movie on a rented inflatable screen, with vendors (snowcone truck, face painters, etc.).  Committee selects the movie, secures the vendors, and staffs the event.

Fall Festival (October).  A huge event with many vendors (inflatables, face painting, petting zoo, arts & crafts, food). Committee plans all aspects of the event, reserves vendors, and recruits volunteers. Volunteers are needed for set up, clean up, and during the event.

Mother/Son Event (November).  A fun bonding experience for KSE’s young men!  Dads, we need you to plan and execute this night.

STEAM/Career Night (January).  Students visit an array of STEAM presentations.  Committee recruits presenters and coordinates the event.

Sweetheart Dance (January).  A special night for KSE’s young ladies.  Committee chooses the theme, secures vendors, and coordinates all aspects of the event.

Sneak-a-Peek (July).  Kids and parents meet their teacher and visit their classroom, join the PTA, sign up for after-school plans, and more.  Committee will cover next year’s event (July 2018).

Open House (August). Parents visit the classroom, where teachers discuss rules, curriculum, etc. Committee staffs the PTA membership table.  Committee will cover next year’s event (Aug 2018).

Fundraising
School Rewards Programs.  Coordinate KSE’s Box Tops for Education collections and identify & implement other school rewards programs.

Donations/Grants/Sponsors.  Secure community partners, solicit donations for silent auctions and prizes during the school year, and identify and apply for grants. 

Restaurant Nights (Monthly) and Sparkles Nights (Monthly).  Plan and coordinate spirit nights at our sponsor restaurants and Sparkles skating rink.

Educational Support

Enrichment. Work with school administration to manage after-school enrichment offerings. 

Garden Club & Environmental Education. Assist with KSE’s after-school Garden Club, help maintain the school gardens, and work with teachers on environmental-focused lessons.

Reflections Art Contest (October).  Advertise the contest, collect and judge entries, and communicate winners.

Special Needs Committee. Provide community & support to families of special needs students.

STEM Support. Organize STEM events and work closely with STEM teachers as needed.

Hospitality
Campus Beautification (3-4 Saturday mornings per year).  Clean-up events at both campuses.

Walk-to-School Wednesday (Monthly).  Hand out treats to children who participate.

Conference Week (October). The PTA serves lunch to teachers & staff.  Committee picks a daily theme, coordinates donations and volunteers, and covers set-up and clean-up shifts.

Bus Driver Appreciation (October).  Plan and execute the PTA’s bus driver appreciation gifts.

Donuts with Dads (January).  Dads join students for breakfast before school.  Committee procures food & drinks and staffs the event.

Muffins with Moms (March).  Moms join students for breakfast before school.  Committee procures food & drinks and staffs the event.  Dads, we need your help so our moms can enjoy!

Staff Appreciation Week (May). Select theme and plan & execute festivities to honor KSE’s teachers and staff each day of the week. Share ideas with room parent coordinators. Planning begins in January.

Post-Planning & Pre-Planning Lunches (May & July).  Plan, set up & clean up for these staff lunches.

Coffee, Tea & Sympathy (July/August).  Visit with parents at the K-1 campus after drop-off on the first morning of the school year.  Committee will cover next year’s event (Aug 2018).

PTA Support
REACH (Recruiting Activities, Calendars, and “Hello”s). Committee reaches out to connect with families and build a stronger KSE community.  Coordinates the volunteer pledge drive, monthly calendars, and kindergarten/new family welcome initiatives.

PTA Bulletin Boards. Update the PTA bulletin boards, located in the lobby at both campuses.

By Laws/PTA Council Rep.  Serve as KSE’s representative to the local PTA Council.
 
Dads’ Club.  Plan ways for KSE’s dads to socialize and get involved in the school community.

Membership.  Oversee membership sales.  Committee is active July – Oct.

Room Parent Coordinator. Serve as a liaison between the PTA and Room Parents. 

Spirit Wear and Gear.  Design, order, and distribute spirit wear and gear.

Volunteer Coordinator.  Assist event chairs in recruiting volunteers for their events.

Website/Communications.  Maintain the PTA website and send weekly e-blast newsletters.

Yearbook.  Work with the 5th grade Yearbook Club to create, sell, and distribute KSE’s yearbook.
