DECEMBER 2019:

Hope Vibes Serve Day (12/14): Join us as we hit the streets of Uptown Charlotte & the Women's Shelter to provide hygiene items and encouragement to those living without homes. During these times amazing conversation occurs, games are played with the kids at the shelter and hope is being exchanged. This event is suitable for kids ages 5 and up with a parent. Carrington Place Bingo Night (12/19): Enjoy helping the residents play bingo, have fun, and encourage new friends at Carrington Place Nursing Home. This event is family-friendly and will take place from 6:30-8:15 pm on Dec. 19. To register, go to https://carmelbaptistchurch.goentrepid.com/opportunities. This event is arranged by Carmel Baptist Church but you do not need to be a member of this church to volunteer for this event.

Evangeline’s Stocking Drive (11/29-12/20): Bring some joy to a child who is in the hospital. Local parents Christina & Keith Dusenberry decided to create a stocking drive after their own daughter Evengeline was admitted to Levine Children’s Hospital earlier this year. Their goal is to raise 234 stockings to deliver to Levine Children’s Hospital on Christmas Eve. Please consider contributing a stocking or other items from Levine Chidren’s Hospital wishlist. Merry Oaks Christmas Toy Store (12/14): Come join City Church and Carmel Baptist Church as they help the Merry Oaks Community shop for Christmas. Merry Oaks is a public elementary school located in East Charlotte. The toy store is open to every Merry Oaks family and allows them to come and purchase new toys at a highly reduced price ($2- $4 for $20- $40 toys). There is also a wrapping area and an area for kids to play and do activities while their parents shop. There is also a need for toy donations, but you do not need to donate to help with the Christmas store or be a member of either church. Shifts are on Saturday 12/14 from 12- 2:30 or 2:30- 5 pm. ON-GOING SERVICE OPPORTUNITIES:
Operation Sandwich: Held the second Saturday of every month, Operation Sandwich is hosted by Weddington United Methodist Church. This program makes sandwiches for the Charlotte Urban Ministry to help feed the homeless in and around the Charlotte area. https://www.signupgenius.com/go/10c0b44acab2aa64-2016

Servants with a Heart: This organizations prepares dry food packages to feed hungry children worldwide. https://www.servantswithaheart.org/make-an-impact

Bright Blessings: This organization brings joy, care, and hope to more than 13,000 homeless and impoverished children around the charlotte greater region through their programs such as Bless-A-Baby and Bless-A-Birthday. They also host educational and enrichment activities as well as providing the kids with gifts, new books and basic care essentials. Color A Smile: Distributes cheerful drawings to senior citizens, our troops overseas, and anyone in need of a smile. Every month they mail thousands of new drawings to people on our mailing list. School children, scouting troops, and anyone of any age, can volunteer to color and help us spread smiles. https://colorasmile.org/about_us/

The Pearl at Fort Mill: The Pearl at Fort Mill is a Phoenix Senior Living Residence focusing on memory care serving those affected by Alzheimer’s or Dementia. We have a need for families wanting to engage with residents for the evening, especially Sundays. They can play games, do crafts, bring music, or read to them. Cards for Hospitalized Kids: CFHK is an internationally recognized charitable organization that spreads hope, joy and magic to hospitalized kids across America through uplifting, handmade cards. http://www.cardsforhospitalizedkids.com
