Comgratulations to Shea Whitacre Who Peformed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade
High School Junior Among First South Florida Female Drummers
Selected To Perform In Macy's Great American Marching Band
Spanish River High School honors student and percussionist, Shea Whitacre, marched down Broadway with an elite group of 185 high school all-star musicians during this year's Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade.
Chosen among more than 1,000 high school musicians who auditioned, Whitacre performed in the drumline of the Great American Marching Band after spending a week in New York, where she drilled and learned multiple songs before the big day. Performing under the tutelage of Director Dr. Richard Good and Auburn University's Percussion Director, Dr. Douglas Rosener, the band was cheered by the 3 million spectators lining the parade route.
Truly marching to the beat of a different drum, Whitacre has garnered All-County and All-District awards for playing both snare drum and marimba. She is the drum captain of the school's Silver Sound Marching Band and leads a "battery" of 20 percussionists when they take the field during football games and competitions.
