Dear Rea View community,

This school year, the PTO has been hard at work! Most recently, we had a very successful Father-Daughter dance and a really fun Mother-Son game night. We’re also preparing for our annual Spring Fling and of course, getting ready to build and install our Outdoor Classroom!

As a reminder, this year, the PTO raised $10,000 from our Direct Give campaign and $42,000 from Boosterthon. We are using this money to build an outdoor classroom!

You might be aware that Boosterthon takes a significant percentage of our earnings. I know this can be frustrating when we are all working so hard to fundraise, and so we have taken it upon ourselves to build a committee and host our own fun run next year, without the assistance of Boosterthon. It’s a big undertaking and we are going to need all the help we can get. Please be on the look-out for ways to volunteer, and if you have any great ideas, we’d love to hear them!

Here is an update on our Outdoor Classroom project.

The Outdoor Classroom will be in our courtyard, and is being built in phases.

• Our first phase is the core furniture for the space. These items have already been ordered and we are awaiting their arrival! This includes log benches, tree stump seats, an outdoor chalkboard, a waterproof storage cabinet and a few other items.
• The second phase will be supplemental (and more “fun”) furniture, like garden beds, a weather vane, magnifying lenses, a windchime and a bird feeder.
• The third phase will be “everything else,” and all the items we hope to install in the longer term. This includes a small koi pond, a sunshade, key fobs for the doors, garden tools and suggested curriculum material.

The goal is that the first phase (and possibly even the second!) will be completed in April 2024, so the current 5^th graders will have the opportunity to use and enjoy the outdoor classroom.
