1st Day of School

Teacher/Classroom Assignments
Please log into your Parent Portal account after 3 p.m. on MONDAY, August 19th  to find your child’s classroom placement for the year.  If you do not have a Parent Portal, plan on getting to school early and the school will have staff out on the blacktop with class lists.

First Day of School for Grades 1-5 
The first day of school will be Tuesday, August 20th. School begins at 8:00 am and ends at 12:05 pm.  Students in Grades 1-5 (and Parents) can meet their teacher on the blacktop playground between 7:50 - 8:00 a.m.  We will have teacher names displayed so you can easily find your child's classroom line up area. We will  have a brief Welcome Back Las Palmas Assembly the first day of school.  Parents of students in grades 1 - 5 are invited to a "Meet and Greet" in the classroom from 8:10 - 8:30 am.

Kindergarten Families 
The first day Kindergarten Students (and Parents) are invited to a "Meet and Greet".  Tuesday, August 20th school begins at 9:00 am and ends at 10:00 a.m.  Students and Parents can meet their teacher and visit their classroom starting at 8:45 a.m.  While students are in classroom, parents are invited to the Welcome Celebration sponsored by the Las Palmas PTA in the multipurpose room "MPR".   Come learn more about our school and how you can stay informed and get involved.  Kinder student's first official day of school is Wednesday, August 21 8:00 am to 2:10 pm.  


NEW!!! "SCHOOL NEWS" COMMUNICATION TOOL:  "School Messenger" has an app, one location for all your school news communications for all your kids at any school within the school district.  The app is directly connected to your "Parent Portal" account, there is nothing to sign up for just download the app and login using your Parent Portal email, password & select united states.  It's that easy, CLICK HERE to download. Welcome Celebration

Kinder Parents ~ are invited to a Welcome Celebration sponsored by Las Palmas PTA in the multipurpose room "MPR".  Come have a light breakfast and learn about the Las Palmas Community.

To all our Kindergarten Parents:  Welcome to Las Palmas Elementary School!  We are as excited as you are for your child to begin his/her grade school experience. Since 1927 LPES have been welcoming San Clement’s youngest students.  Below you will find some of the most popular questions that Kindergarten parents have about their child's first year.

  • Las Palmas Communications Recommendations:
    • Get the "School Messenger App" highly recommend! This app is for parents/guardians with an established Parent Portal account. (To login use your parent portal user id and password & select "united States").
    • Create an account on the PTA Website: Opt in to receive the monthly news letter, when posted parents can volunteer and an account is required to purchase from our online store (re-opens in the fall 2019). 
    • Monthly Kinder Newsletter - email Megan Wohlfarth at Kinder@HolaLasPalmas.org to be added to the recipient list.

Q:  Will we have a chance to meet our child's teacher before school starts?
A:  Yes!  Families are invited to the classrooms starting at 8:50 am to meet the teacher, see the classroom, and even drop off school supplies.  Watch for announcements about this schedule and more school news through “School Messenger App".  

Q:  What time does school start and end for kindergarten?
A:  The first full day kindergarten begins Wednesday August 21st at 8:00 a.m.  The students will line up in the court yard in front of the kinder lunch tables.  Kindergarten students with older siblings can be dropped off before 8 am there will be Kindergarten playground supervisor from 7:45-8:00 am.  School dismisses is at 2:10 p.m.
Normal School Hours: M, W,T, F: 8:00 a.m. to 2:10 p.m. Tuesday is early dismissal: 8:00 a.m. to 12:50 p.m.

Q:  Where should I pick up my child at the end of the School Day?
A:  Students should be picked up from the kindergarten lunch tables at the end of the day.

Q:  What does my child need for school?
A:  Please Click Here to check the school supply list for items needed for Kindergarten..  Please make sure your child brings a backpack to school every day. The backpack needs to be large enough to hold a school pocket folder.  Be sure your child's personal items (backpack, coat, snack bag, etc.) are labeled with his or her name.  An option to help earn money for the PTA is to purchase labels from mabel’s labels, click here (choose Las Palmas PTA & shop away!)

Q:  Is there a dress code for Kindergarten?
A:  Yes!  Las Palmas Elementary School has a mandatory uniform policy.  Please click here for the uniform details.  Las Palmas PTA Spirit wear T-shirts (long & short sleeve), polo shirt, and hoodies are uniform compliant.  The PTA will be selling Las Palmas Spirit wear during the kindergarten summer introduction classes.  All clothing should be labeled with your child's name.

Q:  What is the procedure if my child is absent from school?
A:  State law requires that parents notify the school if a child is absent.  You may contact the school anytime day or night on our 24/7 Attendance line.  When you call, please leave your name, your child's name, their teacher's name, the reason for their absence and the date the student will be absent.

Q:  Will my child be with older students at any time?
A:  Other than during arrival and dismissal, Kindergarten students are not with older students during the day.  Their classrooms are in a separate area with their own recess area that is fenced in.  Occasionally, our 5th grade classes may "buddy" with a kindergarten student as part of their classroom experience.  This Buddy Class is a structured reading time that is supervised by both the Kindergarten and 5th grade teachers.

Q:  May I volunteer?
A:  Absolutely!  In fact, we ask that parents make a pledge to volunteer for at least three hours during the school year.  This can be done at parties/activities in the classroom, chaperoning field trips, working at school events, or even taking material home with you to organize and prepare for the teacher.  If you do volunteer during school hours, we ask that you sign-in at the office first so that LP Staff may greet you and give you a volunteer badge.  For more information about volunteering click on the volunteer tab on the main page of this website or email Vanessa Lentine Volunteer@HolaLasPalmas.org.




 

PTA Membership ~ Join Today

The PTA is hosting our annual Membership Drive from August 20th - 30th. Our goal is to reach 500 memberships!!! There will be prizes for teachers, classrooms and grade levels with the most memberships received by August 30th.   The Las Palmas PTA with your support, brings many of our special activities such as Art (Meet the Masters/Reflections Art Contest), PE, Book Clubs, Treasure Chest, Class Field Trips and opportunities to the school by supporting the STEAM Lab, Organic Garden, Library, Class Room Materials, Music Programs and much more!

WATCH D.O.G.S. Kick Off Event

Greetings Las Palmas families!!!

We would like to extend a warm welcome to all of you this school year.  Our WATCH D.O.G.S. (Dads of Great Students) program needs the help of all the great dads out there, to ensure the continued success that the program has had in the past school years!

Join us at 5:30 pm sharp on Monday, August 26th!  We will have some delicious pizza, a fantastic puppet show for the kids, and of course a very brief orientation and sign-up period for all those dads that are going to be joining the WATCH D.O.G.S. ranks this school year!
